Bread, rice, pasta and cereals
Bran, Weetabix, muesli, granola
Avoid — On the avoid list of the leaflet this book follows, or restricted almost everywhere.
Swaps
- Instead of Bran cereal or muesli, use Cornflakes or a similar rice-based cereal
- Bran and muesli are built from the husk and germ that this diet needs to leave out, while cornflakes are milled down to almost nothing but starch.
- Instead of Muesli or granola bars, use Plain shortbread, or a syrup-bound rice-cereal bar
- Muesli and granola bars are built from oats, bran and dried fruit, so a plain shortbread or a syrup-bound rice-cereal bar gives the same grab-and-go snack without any of it.
- Instead of Bran-topped or seeded fruit muffins, use Plain white-flour muffins with a seedless jam swirl
- It is the bran topping and pips in the fruit that cause the problem, not the muffin itself, so a plain white-flour version with a seedless jam swirl gives the same treat without them.
